Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:25, Amplified Bible
There are many different reasons people attend church and other church/ Christ-related functions. For me, this covers: Sundays, some Mondays, Wednesdays, all Thursdays (Celebrate Recovery), and certain Fridays and Saturdays. Here are my reasons of why I do NOT and why I DO go.
I Do NOT go because
1. I think I am perfect
2. I do not have anything better to do with my time
3. I am earning my salvation
4. I want God to love me more
5. I want people to think I have "made it" and have no hurts, habits, or hang-ups.
I DO go to church
1. To remind myself that I am a saint saved ONLY by God's grace through Jesus Christ
2. To be humbled by the love of my Savior
3. To spend time with other believers in Jesus who encourage me to keep fighting
4. To glory in my weaknesses so that Christ's power can shine brighter
5. Honestly, because it is FUN!!
A word on Celebrate Recovery: I love this ministry! A lot of people say "Recovery programs don't work." That is a true statement, but here is another true statement "It works, if you work it." SO, yes some recovery programs do not work. but I think the difference between Celebrate and other programs is their dependence and unashamed naming of the only true High Power: Jesus Christ.
This ministry has changed my life. I am so thankful for the people who are involved in CRs across the country but especially here in Elberton. Thank y'all so much. Jesus changes lives.
But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for my strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!
So for the sake of Christ, I am well pleased and take pleasure in infirmities, insults, hardships, persecutions, perplexities, and distresses; for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am [truly] strong (able, powerful in divine strength). 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Amplified Bible
